Officially Licensed for PlayStation 5

The WD_BLACK SN850P is an officially licensed PlayStation product, making it specifically designed and tested for compatible PS5 console storage expansion.

This provides a straightforward choice for users who want an SSD specifically marketed and designed for their PlayStation 5.

Play PS5 Games Directly from the SSD

Unlike a conventional USB external hard drive, a compatible M.2 NVMe SSD installed in the PS5's internal expansion slot can be used to install and play PS5 games directly.

With the SN850P installed, users can:

• Download PS5 games directly to the SSD
• Install PS5 games
• Store PS5 games
• Play PS5 games directly from the SSD
• Move games between console storage and M.2 storage
• Store and play compatible PS4 titles

This eliminates the need to transfer PS5 games back to the console's built-in SSD before playing.

PCIe Gen4 x4

The SN850P uses a high-performance PCIe 4.0 x4 interface, providing the bandwidth required for modern console gaming.

Interface Specifications

• PCIe Generation: Gen4
• PCIe Lanes: x4
• Protocol: NVMe
• Form Factor: M.2 2280

The drive is designed to install directly into the PS5's internal M.2 expansion slot.

Integrated Heatsink

The SN850P comes with a factory-installed heatsink, an important feature for high-performance M.2 SSD operation inside a PS5.

The heatsink helps:

• Dissipate SSD heat
• Manage operating temperatures
• Maintain performance during demanding gaming sessions
• Reduce thermal throttling under sustained workloads

There is no need to purchase and install a separate SSD heatsink.

Designed to Fit PS5

The SSD and heatsink are designed to fit within the PS5's supported M.2 expansion area.

This provides a clean internal installation without:

• External USB cables
• External power adapters
• External drive enclosures

Once installed and formatted by the PS5, the additional storage becomes integrated into the console's storage management system.

PS5 & PS4 Game Storage

The SN850P can provide storage for both generations of PlayStation games.
