Turn a SATA Drive into External Storage

The CM300 allows a compatible internal:

2.5-Inch SATA HDD or SSD

to be used as an external USB storage device.

This makes it useful for:

• Reusing an Old Laptop HDD
• Reusing a SATA SSD
• File Backups
• Moving Large Files
• Portable Storage
• Data Migration
• Accessing an Old Drive
• Expanding Compatible Device Storage

The enclosure itself does not contain a storage drive. A compatible SATA HDD or SSD must be installed separately.

2.5-Inch SATA Compatibility

The enclosure supports:

2.5-Inch SATA I / II / III HDD and SSD

with drive thicknesses of:

7mm or 9.5mm

Supported Drive Interface

SATA 7+15 Pin

Supported Form Factor

2.5-Inch

Maximum Drive Height

9.5mm

Maximum Capacity

Up to 6TB

Important Drive Compatibility

Compatible

• 2.5-Inch SATA HDD
• 2.5-Inch SATA SSD
• SATA I
• SATA II
• SATA III
• 7mm Drives
• 9.5mm Drives

Not Compatible

• 3.5-Inch SATA HDD
• M.2 SATA SSD
• M.2 NVMe SSD
• mSATA SSD
• IDE / PATA HDD

This enclosure is specifically designed for conventional 2.5-inch SATA drives.

Up to 6Gbps SATA Data Path

The CM300 uses a SATA III storage interface with a theoretical link rate of:

Up to 6Gbps

The enclosure's bridge is USB 3.1 Gen 2-capable, but the internal SATA III storage path itself is limited to 6Gbps theoretical. Actual file-transfer performance will be lower and depends on the installed drive, computer, USB port, cable, file sizes, operating system, and UASP support.

UASP Support

The CM300 supports:

UASP – USB Attached SCSI Protocol

when used with compatible hardware and operating systems.

UASP can improve storage-transfer efficiency compared with traditional USB mass-storage protocols, particularly when using a compatible SATA SSD.

USB-C Enclosure Connection

The CM300 has a:

USB Type-C Port

on the enclosure itself.

The standard 70498 package includes a:

USB-C to USB-A Cable

for connecting the enclosure to a standard USB-A host port.

Enclosure Connector

USB-C

Included Cable

USB-C to USB-A

Cable Length

Approximately 50cm

Important USB-C Note

Although the enclosure itself uses a USB-C receptacle, the supplied cable for SKU 70498 is:

USB-C to USB-A

A USB-C to USB-C cable is not included with this configuration.

USB Bus Powered

The CM300 receives power directly from the connected USB host.

External Power Adapter

Not Required

Power Method

USB Bus Powered

This makes it convenient for portable use without carrying a separate power adapter.

Tool-Free Installation

The enclosure is designed for:

Tool-Free Drive Installation

allowing a compatible 2.5-inch SATA HDD or SSD to be installed without screws or specialized tools.

This is particularly useful for users who frequently:

• Change Drives
• Transfer Data
• Test SATA Drives
• Reuse Old Drives
• Perform Backups

Aluminum-Alloy Housing

The CM300 uses a:

Silver Aluminum-Alloy Outer Housing

The aluminum construction provides a rigid enclosure and helps spread heat generated by the installed HDD or SSD during operation.

Material

Aluminum Alloy

Color

Silver

Protection Features

Product information for the CM300 70498 identifies protection functions including:

• Short-Circuit Protection
• Over-Current Protection
• Over-Voltage Protection
• Temperature / Overheating Protection

These features do not replace proper backups or safe drive-handling practices.

Plug and Play

The CM300 is designed for:

Plug-and-Play

operation on compatible systems without requiring a dedicated enclosure driver.

The installed HDD or SSD may still need to be:

• Initialized
• Partitioned
• Formatted

before first use, depending on the drive and operating system.

Formatting can erase existing data, so a drive containing important files should not be formatted without first confirming its contents.

Compatibility

The enclosure can be used with compatible USB host devices and operating systems including:

• Windows
• macOS
• Linux
• Chrome OS
• PCs
• Laptops
• Compatible TVs
• Compatible Routers
• PlayStation Systems
• Xbox Systems
• Raspberry Pi

Compatibility with TVs, routers, consoles, and other devices depends on their supported USB storage formats, capacity limits, power requirements, and file systems.

Specifications

The CM300 model and SKU 70498 are also confirmed in UGREEN's conformity documentation.

Important HDD/SSD Note

The UGREEN CM300 is an:

Enclosure Only

It does not include an HDD or SSD.

A compatible:

2.5-Inch SATA HDD or SSD

must be purchased or supplied separately.

Important M.2 / NVMe Note

The CM300 70498 is not an M.2 enclosure.

It does not support:

• M.2 NVMe SSDs
• M.2 SATA SSDs
• mSATA SSDs

Customers with an M.2 drive need an enclosure specifically designed for their drive's M.2 SATA or NVMe protocol.

Important 3.5-Inch HDD Note

The enclosure does not support 3.5-inch desktop hard drives.

It is designed exclusively for compatible:

2.5-Inch SATA HDDs and SSDs up to 9.5mm thick.

Important Speed Note

Do not advertise the CM300 as providing guaranteed 6Gbps file-transfer speeds.

The SATA III interface has a theoretical maximum link rate of 6Gbps, while real-world file-transfer speed depends heavily on the installed HDD/SSD and host system.

A mechanical 2.5-inch HDD will normally be substantially slower than the interface's theoretical maximum, while a SATA SSD can make much better use of the available bandwidth.
