Unlike the original Nintendo Switch version, Nintendo Switch 2 supports Mortal Kombat 4 online play.

Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 WaveNet

One of the collection's most historically interesting inclusions is Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 WaveNet.

WaveNet was Midway's experimental attempt at networked arcade gaming and had been effectively unavailable since the 1990s. Digital Eclipse describes the Legacy Kollection as the first opportunity to officially play this rare version again since 1997.

Mortal Kombat Trilogy

The PlayStation version of Mortal Kombat Trilogy is included.

Digital Eclipse has improved one of the original game's biggest technical problems: loading. Shang Tsung's character transformations now occur without the disruptive original loading pauses, while stage-loading times were also substantially reduced.

Fatality Trainer

Performing classic Mortal Kombat finishing moves originally required memorizing complex button sequences and precise character positioning.

The new Fatality Trainer gives players an easier way to practice finishing moves. It freezes the timer, supports rapid retries, and provides on-screen positioning information.

It supports classic finishing techniques including Fatalities, Babalities, Animalities, Brutalities, and Friendships.

Training Mode & Move Lists

Digital Eclipse added Training Mode to games that originally lacked one.

Players can display context-sensitive move information during gameplay, open deeper move lists from the pause menu, see controller inputs, and practice character techniques without relying on old magazines or external move guides.

Krossplay

An April 2026 update added full Krossplay functionality.

Nintendo Switch 2 players can now fight players using:

in supported Quick Play and Online Arcade modes. Krossplay is disabled by default and can be enabled through the game's Online Options.

This is important when creating your product listing because older descriptions written around the October 2025 launch may incorrectly state that cross-platform play is unavailable.

Online Arcade

The Online Arcade update is now fully available on Nintendo Switch 2.

Players can create public or private online rooms supporting up to 16 participants. Multiple matches can run simultaneously, while other users can spectate or wait for their turn in an arcade-style queue.

Individual Mortal Kombat fights remain primarily between two players.

2-on-2 Online Kombat

The April 2026 Krossplay update also introduced online support for classic 2-on-2 team modes.

In these modes, each player controls a team of two fighters; this does not mean four separate human players participate in a single match.

Nintendo Switch 2 VRR Support

Nintendo Switch 2 receives one notable platform-specific enhancement through an April 2026 update: Variable Refresh Rate in handheld mode.

Many original Mortal Kombat arcade boards operated at unusual refresh rates around 53Hz rather than exactly 60Hz. When compatible VRR functionality is enabled, the Switch 2 display can synchronize more closely to those original refresh rates, providing a more authentic presentation and potentially reducing perceived input latency.

Nintendo's current Switch 2 listing confirms 1–2 players on one system, two-player online matches, GameShare with local users, Save Data Cloud, TV/Tabletop/Handheld support, six interface languages, and an approximately 12.9GB digital download.

Language Support

The Nintendo Switch 2 version officially supports:

English, Spanish, Portuguese, French, German, and Italian.

Arabic is not currently listed as a supported language, so Arabic menus or subtitles should not be advertised unless your exact regional packaging states otherwise.

Release Date

Mortal Kombat: Legacy Kollection was released digitally on October 30, 2025.

The physical Standard and Deluxe editions followed on:

December 12, 2025.

The game is therefore already released and should be listed as an available title rather than a preorder.

Important Physical Edition Information

A genuine physical Nintendo Switch 2 Standard Edition is available; this is not merely a digital download sold in a retail box. Atari currently sells physical Standard, Deluxe, and collector configurations for Nintendo platforms.

However, there is one very important detail for the Nintendo Switch 2 physical version:

Mortal Kombat 4 is not stored on the original physical Switch 2 cartridge and requires a downloadable update.

Digital Eclipse explained that the Switch cartridge had to enter production before MK4 was ready, so that game was added through a post-release download. The physical cartridge contains the rest of the original collection, but an internet connection is required to obtain MK4 and the latest updates/features.

For this reason, I would not advertise the physical Switch 2 edition as “all 23 games completely on cartridge.”

Post-launch features such as Online Arcade, Krossplay, online 2-on-2 play, VRR support, bug fixes, and performance improvements also require the game to be updated to the latest version.&
