Story
Japan, December 1988.
Kamurocho is caught in a struggle surrounding a massive redevelopment project. Powerful organizations are fighting for control, but one tiny piece of land with an unknown owner stands in the way.
Known simply as the Empty Lot, this seemingly insignificant property becomes the center of a conflict capable of reshaping the Japanese underworld.
Young yakuza Kazuma Kiryu becomes trapped in the conspiracy after a routine debt collection leads to a murder investigation.
Meanwhile in Sotenbori, Goro Majima lives under strict supervision while managing the successful Cabaret Grand. A former yakuza desperate to return to his clan, Majima is eventually presented with a dangerous opportunity that could change his future forever.
As their separate paths become connected to the struggle surrounding the Empty Lot, the foundations are laid for two legends to emerge.
Meet the Protagonists
Kazuma Kiryu
Young Kazuma Kiryu is a member of the Dojima Family, part of the powerful Tojo Clan.
When a man Kiryu collected money from is later discovered dead, he becomes implicated in the murder and pulled into a much larger conflict involving the Empty Lot.
Kiryu must fight to uncover the truth while protecting the people closest to him.
Goro Majima
Goro Majima manages the successful Cabaret Grand in Sotenbori and has earned a reputation as the Lord of the Night.
Behind his polished appearance, however, Majima is a former yakuza living under the control of his former organization. His desire to return to the clan leads him toward an assignment that will dramatically change his life.
Six Fighting Styles
Both protagonists have three distinct fighting styles that can be switched according to the situation.
Kazuma Kiryu
- Brawler - Balanced close-range fighting built around powerful punches and counters.
- Rush - Fast attacks, rapid movement, and agile footwork.
- Beast - Heavy-hitting combat that lets Kiryu use large environmental objects and overwhelming strength.
Goro Majima
- Thug - Precise and aggressive street-fighting techniques.
- Breaker - Acrobatic breakdancing attacks capable of hitting multiple enemies.
- Slugger - Powerful weapon-focused combat centered around Majima's baseball bat.
The ability to change styles during battle gives players different ways to approach groups, bosses, and individual opponents.
New Director's Cut Content
The Director's Cut goes beyond simply bringing the original game to modern platforms.
SEGA added newly recorded cutscenes featuring major characters, giving players additional context surrounding important events and character relationships.
This makes the Director's Cut particularly appealing to both:
- New players experiencing Yakuza 0 for the first time.
- Existing fans who want to discover additional story material.
Full English Voiceover
One of the biggest additions is a new English voice track.
The Director's Cut supports:
- Japanese Voice
- English Voice
- Chinese Voice
The English cast includes performers such as Yong Yea as Kazuma Kiryu, Matt Mercer as Goro Majima, Kaiji Tang as Akira Nishikiyama, and David Hayter as Osamu Kashiwagi.
Red Light Raid
Red Light Raid introduces online multiplayer to Yakuza 0.
Players join forces to take on special Challenge Missions filled with waves of enemies before facing a boss during the final stage.
The mode features:
- Up to 4 online players.
- 60 playable characters.
- Cooperative enemy encounters.
- Challenge Missions.
- Boss battles.
- Character unlocking and enhancement using money earned during raids.
A PlayStation Plus subscription is required for online multiplayer on PS5.
Explore 1988 Japan
Yakuza 0 isn't only about fighting.
The streets of Kamurocho and Sotenbori are filled with entertainment, side stories, businesses, and distractions inspired by late-1980s Japan.
Activities include experiences such as:
- SEGA Arcade Games
- Darts
- Disco
- Karaoke
- Cabaret Clubs
- Side Stories
- Business Management
- Restaurants
- Bars
- Mini-Games
The contrast between serious crime drama and unusual side activities remains one of Yakuza 0's defining features.

Release Date
Yakuza 0: Director's Cut was released for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S on December 8, 2025.
The Nintendo Switch 2 edition was released earlier on June 5, 2025, while the Steam edition followed the new-console rollout.
The PS5 version is therefore already released and should be listed as a regular available product rather than a preorder.
Important Physical Edition Information
There is an important regional difference to check before publishing your stock.
SEGA's original PS5 launch announcement described the PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and Steam versions as digital-only.
However, current US retailers now list a physical PlayStation 5 edition with UPC:
010086633283.
Play-Asia also currently lists physical US and European PS5 versions.
Therefore, if your Games World Egypt stock is a physical PS5 copy, use the barcode, age rating, region, and language information printed on your exact box rather than assuming every regional PS5 version is identical.
Important PS4 Upgrade Information
Owners of the original Yakuza 0 on PS4 cannot upgrade it to Yakuza 0: Director's Cut on PS5.
PlayStation also states that:
Yakuza 0 PS4 save data does not transfer to Yakuza 0: Director's Cut.
Players therefore start the Director's Cut as a separate PS5 version.
Age Rating
The US PlayStation version carries an ESRB M - Mature rating with content descriptors including:
- Blood
- Intense Violence
- Sexual Content
- Strong Language
- Use of Alcohol
Age-rating logos can vary according to the region of the physical copy.
