A40 TR Open-Back Audio

The headset uses open-back 40mm drivers tuned for gaming. The open construction provides a spacious sound presentation that can help players identify directional cues such as footsteps, movement, gunfire, and environmental effects.

The standard configuration allows outside sound to enter and permits some audio leakage. It does not provide strong passive noise isolation.

An optional A40 TR Mod Kit can convert it into a more isolated closed-back configuration. The Mod Kit is sold separately.

Headset Specifications

MixAmp Pro TR Audio Control

Master Volume

The large dial controls overall headset volume without requiring access to software or console menus.

Game and Voice Balance

A second dial adjusts the balance between game sound and voice chat, making teammates easier to hear during loud gameplay.

This feature requires a compatible connection that exposes separate game and communication audio channels.

Dolby Audio

The MixAmp provides Dolby headphone processing for virtual surround sound. The traditional console setup requires a compatible Dolby Digital signal through the optical input.

The headset still contains two physical drivers; the surround presentation is digitally processed.

EQ Presets

Users can switch between several onboard EQ profiles for different games and listening preferences. Compatible presets can be edited through ASTRO Command Center.

MixAmp Connections

• Headset input/output
• Micro-USB audio and power
• Optical TOSLINK input
• 3.5mm auxiliary input
• 3.5mm configurable stream output
• Two digital daisy-chain ports

The stream output can send a customized combination of game audio, chat, microphone, and auxiliary sound to compatible streaming or recording equipment.

The daisy-chain ports connect compatible MixAmps for private local tournament communication.

ASTRO Command Center

ASTRO Command Center supports MixAmp Pro TR Gen 3 configuration on compatible Windows and Mac systems.

Available settings include:

• Custom EQ profiles
• Microphone level
• Noise-gate behavior
• Sidetone
• Stream-port mixing
• Operating mode
• Audio preferences

Compatibility

Xbox One

The white MixAmp is designed for Xbox One. Its original full-feature configuration uses:

• Micro-USB for power and voice chat
• Optical TOSLINK for game audio
• A40 inline-mute cable between the headset and MixAmp

Xbox Series X|S

Xbox Series consoles do not contain an optical output. The Gen 3 Xbox MixAmp may support game and chat audio through USB after installing compatible firmware.

Important considerations:

• Current compatible firmware may be required
• Game/voice balance should be tested
• Windows Sonic or Dolby Atmos for Headphones may be used
• Traditional optical Dolby processing requires a TV optical output or HDMI audio extractor
• Dolby Atmos may require a separate licence

Full Xbox Series operation should not be guaranteed until the particular MixAmp has been updated and tested.

Windows PC and Mac

Compatible USB connections provide audio, microphone, and MixAmp control. Windows supports separate game and voice devices for compatible game/chat balancing.

PlayStation

The A40 headset itself can work through a compatible analog connection, but the white MixAmp is the Xbox edition. Full PlayStation console-mode and USB voice-chat functionality is not guaranteed.

The black Gen 3 MixAmp is the corresponding PlayStation edition.

Other 3.5mm Devices

The headset can be used with compatible:

• Nintendo Switch
• Laptops
• Smartphones
• Tablets
• Controllers

Devices without a headphone socket require an appropriate audio adapter.

MixAmp Specifications

Logitech identifies the Xbox Gen 3 bundle as hardware produced between approximately 2015 and 2019 on its official support page.
